One of the best vantage points around Banff is on the way to Mount Norquay. Since it is slightly out of the way, it does not get noticed by most of the people coming to Banff, even though it's very close and easy to get to. From the western highway exit , follow the road up the mountain towards Norquay ski resort for about 6-7 kilometers, and you'll get to the small parking lot on the side of the road (see Google Maps). Follow the short trail to the clearing in the forest to get one of the best views of the Town of Banff, Vermillion Lakes, Mount Rundle, Sulphur and Tunnel Mountains and the Bow River.

On that last picture you can see the road that goes uphill on the right-hand side of the valley - that's the road to Rimrock Hotel, Sulphur Mountain Gondola and the Banff Hot Springs. The road to this viewpoint is fairly narrow and full of switchbacks, so, while on your way up, slow down and watch out for cyclists and wildlife. The view is definitely worth the trip.
